REMEMBERING 2 SOLD OUT PARADISO´S! (AMSTERDAM DEC 09)

leidzeplein (did i spell that correctly?)

Ahhh!! december in Amsterdam... there are no other places in the world i´d rather be around at christmastime..
and so when my manager and mojo concerts suggested we do yet another show @ the legendary concert-hall "paradiso" in amsterdam in december there was no doubt in my mind...

i´ve lost count on how many times we´ve played there now.. (anyone?)
we started out on nothing but a gut feeling .. you see after my stint in america promoting the album mellow (american title: "white turns blue") we managed to pick up some new fans in europe.. my theory is that releasing an album in america carries so much promotional weight that other countries just pick up on that wether you do promotion in those countries or not.. -which we didn´t.
years after not "making it" in th U.S we would still have angry fans from holland calling us and asking us to get our butts over there.. so without much radioplay or doing that much promotion we decided to play a concert at the "small" stage in Paradiso.
Believe me when i say we seriously didn´t think ANYONE would show up..    we were wrong.
-it sold out, and that night i made 400 new dutch friends:=)

we played early in the evening that night and some hip british hipster band (don´t remember their name) were gonna play the "big stage" .. and i remember my promo-dude "Ronny" at the time asking me if i wanted to make a bet with him wether or not i would ever play there... my answer was that we would never play there so a bet was out of the question... but he didn´t listen.. he just continued by saying "i bet you´ll play there and even sell  out"
-well, a couple of months after, we were playing a sold out concert @ (the "BIG") Paradiso:=)

i can´t begin to explain to you how much this venue means to me.. this is where it all started! this is where i gained so much of my confidence as a performer.. and it´s all thanks to the audiences!!!

i usually stay and sign autographs  to whomever wants it after the shows there and although it is not a lot, it is my little way of saying "thank u" so please stick around after the show next time:=)
here r some pictures from the two sold out shows we did last time and who knows.. maybe next time we´ll manage to sell out three??? ;)

backstage before the show:

what´s so funny?

SHOWTIME!

after the show:

the only "diva" thing that i have is that i have to have 2 bottles of sparkling wine backstage.. one for me and one for the sound-guys.. ;)

someone asked for the unreleased song "you´re scaring me" and i didn´t play it cuz well...i never have but i will try next time... any other songs u wanna hear us play?

that´s it for now:) love, M.

Hi Maria,

How funny is it that I read your blog, while I'm writing a report on this Paradisoconcert for a schoolassignement. I was just remembering how much fun it was and how nobody had noticed that you were watching the people waiting in line outside, just before the concert. I'll definitely be there if you come back to Paradiso!

OHMYGOD MARIA!! I wrote that note for the "You're Scaring Me" song! I cannot believe you just wrote about that on your blogg! Thank you..

I really wanted to hear it live on that show as it gives me the biggest goosebumps and shivers down my spine as soon as the first notes start. And I think that especially in that song you can hear how much you grown vocally and spiritually (if I say that right?) You are an amazing woman, that need to be said! And I realize now I am writing this, how much you inspire me in my daily life. Thanks again for trying to keep up with blogging and I hope you will be able to write a lot more from where that came from. It's a nice way of knowing what you are up to since your "touring silence" and bringing back memories!

Love you dear! xoxo Kristy

Wow, what an incredible blog post, love reading about your experiences there and what it meant for you!

I think it's time for another one at paradiso, don't you think?!

I've always experienced the Paradiso shows as your best ones! You always seem so in your element there!

I also attended that first show, but couldn't meet you cause i had to hurry home.

The second show you played in utrecht and i got to meet you briefly, what suprised me most was a show in groningen a few months later and you remembered me. To me that was special and proved to me that you are such a genuine artist!

Thanks for this blog entry, and also for blogging again. It's nice to read all of these posts! Good luck with writing your new album, I will patiently wait for it !

have you ever done "Sleep to Dream" live before?

the song kept me company a couple of years.

other than that, I miss hearing "What's Another Day" live. you did it at Parkpop in 2007 and it was the best concert in my life, hanging out with my Dutch friends and just simply feeling (as opposed to the heavy thinking I usually do) when you sang.

I also wonder if Damien will do a duet with someone at Sommerfesten - he did one spontaneously with Ingrid Olava at Træna back in 2008 and now I'm trying to imagine how your voice would go along with his. maybe he'll join a jam-session afterwards? :)
